On October 23th, 2023 at 11:25am Allegan County Central Dispatch received a call of an injury crash on M-40 Hwy near 127th Ave in Heath Township, Allegan County. When responding Deputies arrived on scene they found 2 vehicles rolled over in the ditch. Deputies and first responders where able to assist the occupants in both those vehicles out of their cars and get them to medical personnel.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a 32-year-old male from the Allegan area, was driving a Subaru passenger car traveling north on M-40 Hwy when he rear ended a vehicle near 125th Ave. The 32-year-old driver then fled the first accident scene and continued north on M-40 Hwy passing several vehicles and semi-trucks at a high rate of speed. The Subaru driver then rear ended a second vehicle, which was a Toyota Camry, near 127th Ave. The impact of the second crash caused both the Toyota and the Subaru to lose control and overturn. The victim driver in the first crash had no injuries. The suspect driver and the occupants in the second crash were all transported to a local hospital for their non-life threating injuries.
At this time, Speed and Alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash and is currently an ongoing investigation. M-40 Hwy had been shut down during the incident, but is currently back open.
At this time the names are not being released and the case is being forward to the Allegan County Prosecutor Office for review and charges.
