Two arrested on unrelated warrants following Almena Twp. fire

ALMENA TWP. – Two people were turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges following a structure fire of unknown origin that occurred early Saturday morning, Oct. 28, in Almena Township, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
The two people had left the scene of the fire and were later found by authorities. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that Sheriff’s deputies assisted the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire in the 39000 block of Whiskey Run Road, at approximately 5:55 a.m. Saturday, in Almena Township. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and found that a travel trailer/camper at the property was being lived in. The camper was parked behind a pole barn.
The fire, which remains under investigation, was called in to 911 by the property owner. The two occupants of the camper had left the scene and were found later in the vehicle by deputies several miles away.
