MATTAWAN – Dom Vezeau is a junior center who is also a key player for Mattawan’s hockey team, said his team’s season so far “is not going the way we would like but I think we’re turning out toward the end of the year and are finishing strong.”
This is Vezeau’s second varsity season.
“I’ve improved a lot,” he said. “I was a lot smaller last year and not as skilled and not as physical.”
But he feels he’s improved in all those areas this year.
Vezeau has scored some key goals for the Wildcats this season.
“Scoring against Portage is always a good one,” Vezeau said.
He has high hopes for the team as it enters some key aspects of the season.
“I think we just need to stick to our game,” he said. “The more we play as a team the better we get. We need to stay positive, not take penalties, keep our teammates up and score”
Chemistry has been a key for the team.
“We’ve been through a lot but we stuck together a lot and have been able to stick together to the end,” Vezeau said.
He also plays lacrosse in the spring to stay in shape but especially loves hockey.
What’s unique about Mattawan hockey?
“I would say it’s the culture,” Vezeau said. “Good team, good atmosphere. I love coming to practice.”
