ALLEGAN – It’s a new year coming up and a new look for the county’s sheriff department.
Allegan County Commission chairman James Storey said deputies are sporting new black uniforms as part of an effort to improve the look of the force.
“The black toned uniforms replace the tan and black combination deputies wore for many years,” Storey said.
The commission chairman added there was a lot of thought put into the final determination of having new uniforms to be worn by active deputies in the Allegan County Sheriff’s department.
“Sheriff Frank Baker explained that finding consistency in the color of the tan uniforms among suppliers was increasingly difficult,” Storey said. “The new black threads are less costly, made of materials that offer quick drying features, are part of a trend Michigan sheriffs are adopting, and allows for consistency among area law enforcement agencies, important when responding to service calls that involve neighboring counties.”
