Robert G. Krell, age 90 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Pioneer Golden Estates Assisted Living Facility of Clare with his family by his side. On May 2, 1931, Bob was born the youngest of four children to Christopher and Emma (Kapplinger) Krell in Clare. He was a proud lifelong resident of Clare and was member of the CHS Class of 1949. On June 8, 1952, Bob took his high school sweetheart Barbara J. Hearns’ hand in marriage and together they shared over sixty-eight years of marriage until Barb’s passing in January of 2021. Many will remember Bob’s smiling face and friendly wave as he delivered mail for Clare’s entire Western route for the USPS for thirty years. Bob’s passions included collecting stamps and coins, gardening, keeping up on Detroit’s sports teams, and biking. In his younger years he greatly enjoyed working the Krell family farm, downhill and cross country skiing, and playing tennis. But those that knew Bob well, knew that his first loves were displayed in his exceptional woodworking and carving craftsmanship and his truly beautiful singing voice—that he often shared by opening many Clare Basketball games with the National Anthem.
Bob is survived by his sons Thomas (Pam) and James Scott (Cindy) both of Clare and his grandchildren Erin Krell of Clare and Nicholas (Ashlie) Krell of Mt. Pleasant. Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law Curt (Kay) Hearns of FL. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents Chris and Emma Krell, and his siblings Mildred Ackerman, Regina Krell, and Wally (Phyllis) Krell.
A funeral service in honor of Bob will take place on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Paul Fetzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare. Friends may visit with the Krell Family at the funeral home on Monday the 27th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
