A record-setting effort from a freshman helped ensure Senior Night was successful for the Saugatuck girls soccer team on Thursday, May 18.
Neave Rewa scored three times against Schoolcraft to give her a new single-season school record of 22 as the Trailblazers prevailed 6-0.
Seniors Erin Moerler, Iris Kuipers and Mia Zerfas each scored once in the winning cause. Kuipers also had a pair of assists, while Rewa and junior Jenn Schock had one assist each.
Kennedy Gustafson, Grace Greenwood and Daniela Nkurunziza each saw time in goal and shared the shutout as Saugatuck improved to 16-2.
One day earlier, Saugatuck traveled to Allegan and suffered the 1-0 loss.
That snapped a 14-game winning streak for Saugatuck dating back to an 8-0 victory over Constantine on April 11.
Allegan, which was outshot by Saugatuck, scored on a second-half penalty kick.
“We had some good looks,” Saugagtuck coach Jordan Campbell said. “We just couldn’t get them to go in for us.”
Gustafson finished with 10 saves in the loss.
