Monday, Sept. 11, marked the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks that targeted the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C, among other locations. And while none of the students who attend Otsego Public Schools or Plainwell Community Schools were alive when the attacks occurred, staff members in both districts take time each year to share age-appropriate reflections about that day.
At left, Dix Street Elementary (Otsego) second-grade teacher Terra Wesseldyk reads the book “This Very Tree,” which tells about a tree at the World Trade Center Plaza that was saved and eventually replanted at the new WTC grounds. At right, PCS superintendent Matthew Montange shares his memories of the day with a class at Plainwell Middle School. (Photos provided)
