Lady Rebel Softball
The Lady Rebels started their week off with a win against the Calvary Christian Knights.
Calvary scored first, but Chambers quickly tied it up on a McKenzie Gilliland RBI. The Lady
Rebels had a big inning in the top of the fifth scoring three runs, as Carly Forbus, Gilliland,
Sophie Price, and Brynlee Alford all recorded singles. Chambers’ last score came in the 7th.
After an Olivia Daughtry single, Raleigh Patterson was able to reach on a dropped third strike
allowing Daughtry to score. The Lady Knights were able to add two more runs, but Chambers
got the win 5-3.
Chambers faced Lee-Scott the following night. After falling to the Warriors 3-8 earlier in
the season, the Lady Rebels gave a much improved March showing. Lee-Scott held a 0-3 lead
throughout the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth Makayla Foster homered on a
high fly ball to center field to put Chambers on the board. With two outs and two runners on in
the bottom of the fifth, Carly Forbus followed with a three run homer over the left field wall to
give the Lady Rebels the 4-3 lead. The Lady Warriors battled back in the sixth posting 4 runs to
take back the lead. Chambers refused to give up, adding two more runs in the bottom of the 7th,
but they couldn’t overcome the deficit and fell 6-9.
The final game of the week came in Montgomery facing Ezekial. Ezekiel scored first, but
Chambers tied it up in the third. Ezekiel followed up recording 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Gilliland battled back hitting a two run homer, but the Lady Rebels could not solidify a hitting
game and lost 5-3.
Rebel Baseball
Chambers faced Edgewood to start the week facing Edgewood. AJ Barnes smashed an
RBI double in the first to get on the board 1-0. Edgewood then tied it up 1-1. An error in the field
allowed Edgewood to take the lead 1-2 in the bottom of the third. Grey Hayley hit an RBI single
to tie it up in the next inning. The Wildcats once again took the lead on a hard hit double. In the
top of the seventh with one out and one runner on, Kyle Hand hit a grounder sending the runner
home to tie up the score. Edgewood then intentionally walked power hitter Barnes, so Buster
Coker had to do the heavy hitting and knocked in a run to take the lead 4-3. The Rebels got the
last three outs with no runs allowed and took the win.
The Rebels then faced Lee-Scott. The Warriors took a 0-2 lead early in the game, but
Chambers posted a run on a Coker sacrifice fly. The Rebels gave up 2 runs on a wild pitch in
the fifth. In the sixth, Barnes hit a triple on a line drive to right field. Barnes was then able to
score on a wild pitch. Lee-Scott then added two more runs which Chambers couldn’t overcome,
and the Rebels dropped the game 2-6.
The Rebels also played Southern Prep, adding a 17-1 win for the week. Peyton Yerta
opened the game with a triple and was then knocked in by Eli Pritchard for the first run of the
game. Landon Hand, Jonathan Caulfield, and Hayden Hendrix all hit singles in the second while
Yerta and Hunter Andrews smashed doubles to put the Rebels up 6-0 in the second. The
Rebels added 11 more scores before the game was called in the fifth.
In an exciting scheduling move, the Rebels faced Dublin Coffman High School out of
Dublin, Ohio to end the week. Chambers faced the Rocks at Southern Union State Community
College. Dublin Coffman, a public high school with almost 2,000 in enrollment, is traveling to
Florida to a tournament and scheduled several games in the Southeast before they head home
to start their regular season. The game was highlighted for the Rebels by a two run homer by AJ
Barnes, an RBI by Luke Tarver, and two steals at home by Peyton Yerta and Kyle Hand, but the
Rebels were not able to handle the big bats of the Rocks and lost 5-11.
