PORTER TWP. – A 49-year-old Porter Township man faces charges for domestic assault, by strangulation, following an incident late Saturday night, Dec. 31, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren Cunty Sheriff Daniel Abbott said Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a an address in Porte Township at approximately 11:15 for a report of domestic assault by strangulation.
The suspect, who resides at the residence where the incident occurred, was found to be highly intoxicated and uncooperative with answering questions posed by the investigating deputy, according to Sheriff Abbott. Victim and witness statements were taken and it was determined that probable cause existed for arrest for the domestic assault, according to Abbott.
In addition to the domestic assault charge, Sheriff Abbott said the suspect was also found to have a Van Buren County warrant for child support and another, a criminal bench for contempt, issued out of Allegan County.
The suspect was transported to the Van Buren County Jail, where he was lodged without further incident.
