Plainwell golf places second at Wayland

SHELBYVILLE—Plainwell freshman Ayla Jaeger started her prep golf career on a high note.
Jaeger shot a personal-best 79 at the 18-hole Wayland Invitational on Monday, Aug. 14, to place fifth and lead her team to a second-place showing of 365.
Host Wayland was seventh at 456, while Allegan didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for the team standings.
Anessa Jaeger (tied for seventh with a 90) and Sophie Beck (tied for 10th at 91) joined Ayla Jaeger in the top 10 for individuals. Emma Taylor (tied for 20th at 105) also scored for the Trojans.
Claira Vandenberg (19th at 104) and Taylor Hoogewind (tied for 20th at 105) led the way for Wayland.
Chalise Ritz (30th at 115), Audrey Brink (tied for 32nd at 119) and Kaylee Haas (39th at 132) competed for Allegan.
