Clare Pioneer Softball finished their season on Saturday, falling 8-3 to Standish-Sterling in the district semi-final.
The game started off strong for Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers, with a double on a 1-2 count, scoring a run, followed up with a single, scoring another run in the first inning. Clare tried to make a comeback in the fourth inning, scoring three runs with RBIs from McKayla Methner and Grace Davis.
However, Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers pulled ahead in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a double. Clare couldn’t catch up, despite out-hitting Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers six to four.
Tessa Kelly, Macie Hensley, Davis, Rozlynn Hernandez, Methner, and Morgan Campbell each collected one hit for Clare.
The Pioneers faced a tough schedule this spring, and fought hard against many ranked teams. Clare ended their season with a 24-13-1 record.
