Pat’s Bits and Pieces: Nearly end of fall bits

Well, the summer clothes are (mostly) all packed away and the winter clothes are in the closet and dresser drawers.
Now it should warm up again.
Or maybe it already has – just a couple weeks ago it was shorts weather and one last swim in the lake weather. Then suddenly we look around and are getting out the winter coats – don’t laugh, ours are inside now, right where we can find them if it snows. (and it has snowed in October before – you know that’s true!)
I have all the warm clothes sorted out and ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.
I really hate that chore –getting out winter clothes, coats and boots and putting the capris and short sleeved shirts away for another year. And you know it will be another year, in name at least, before I can get them out again…that is unless we make a trip south this winter – we are talking about it.
This time of year, it always seems like the absolute end of the nice weather season. I have to admit these sweaters and sweatshirts are more comfortable than those short sleeve shirts though.
The colors, as witnessed on our short jaunts into town recently, are really getting beautiful now with an abundance of red this year. Every short trip is a “color tour,” but in another week or two, all those gorgeous leaves will probably be on the ground!
Pessimism runs rampant on these cloudy days, and we sure have had lots of them lately.
I keep wishing for a sunny day so we can do some exploring around the area…but it seems we are doomed to clouds, and rainy weather. When the sun does peek out, it doesn’t last long at all and it seems to be getting colder by the day.
At least it has been a pretty mild fall so far, although the weather reports all keep warning of cold windy weather on the way.
November begins in 11 more days; Thanksgiving will be here in five weeks and Christmas arrives in just over nine weeks.
Doesn’t seem possible, does it? Better start that shopping pretty soon.
Halloween is just over a week away and the area youngsters are excited about trick-or-treat time again. Hopefully the weather will be mild this year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, so if you are out and about, remember to drive carefully and watch out for little ghosts and goblins around town.
Unfortunately, the warm season seems to be over and, unfortunately, we didn’t get any of our summer chore list done this year at all.
I spent most of it in hospitals and rehab and Jack spent most of his summer driving back and forth to see me. One thing about home projects though – they can always wait for another year.
And I will be glad to see another year arrive. 2023 hasn’t been a stelar year at all, not just for us but for many of our friends and family.
Here’s hoping it winds up a bit better and carries that right through into 2024.
With everything going on at the office this time of year, the girls down at the office will be pretty busy, I think. Not so much for me though as age and health issue have slowed this old lady down considerably, especially with the years zooming by the way they are these days, and 80 approaching in a couple of years for Jack and in just over two years for me. I’m still plugging along, but at a much-reduced pace now.
80 sneaking up on us? I still can’t believe it.
Once again another Hunting Season is approaching. Gun season for deer is only three weeks away now. It’s a big deal up here in the north country and brings a lot of hunters up to try for a trophy buck.
If you bag a big one when the season arrives, send us a photo. If we get some pictures, we will show off your trophy in the paper.
