Osceola County working on budget

MARION – Osceola County commissioner Tim Michell said the board is continuing to work on the county’s 2023 calendar year budget.
“Our fiscal year is January 1 to December 31,” Michell said. “We try to get it voted in by November or sooner if we can.”
Commissioners voted to contact with Middle Michigan Development Corp. or economic development and community development, Michell said.
“The person who will be working out of our office is Kati Mora, who is a Reed City graduate,” Michell said. “We’re excited to have her and Middle Michigan on board. We’re excited because of all the federal and state monies that are available that we might put some of those dollars to use to benefit our county as opposed to letting it go to neighboring counties and not receiving any of it.”
Michell said the county planning commission met and had discussion only since it didn’t have a quorum.
“One of the topics was looking into our dams like at Reed City and Marion,” Michell said. “They are investigating projects that would benefit our citizens in the county.”
The senior citizen center at the former Hersey Elementary Building is expected to be ready by September. The building will also house MSU extension, Veterans Administration and the COA offices.
