A Thursday morning fire, January 4th, in a mobile home, a rental, on Ash Road in Harrison, claimed the life on one man found inside on the east end of the building, but four others who were reportedly on the west end of the trailer were able to escape the fire.
Harrison Fire Chief Chris Damvelt said firefighters were call to the report of a house fire at 9:37 am at 3571 Ash Road. “They arrived on the scene at 9:40 am to find the west end of the structure fully engulfed,” he said. “Firefighters were unable to get inside until the flames had been knocked down,” he added.
“We believe that is where the fire started, the bedroom where the man’s body was found,” Damvelt said. He said the Michigan State Police found the man’s body.
Meanwhile four others, a woman, a child and two men, who were inside the mobile when the fire broke out, said they heard noises from the other end and told everyone to get out.
The woman and two men who escaped the fire were found to have warrants against them. The woman and one of the men were arrested and taken to the Clare County Jail. The other man, whose warrant was from Ogemaw and Osceola Counties, was not arrested.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, Damvelt said.
Harrison firefighters were assisted at the scene by Clare Fire Department, The Clare County Sheriff’s Office, the Medical Examiner and by The MSP Fire Investigation Team.
