Obituary: Wilma Jean Curry

Wilma “Wig” Jean (Craft) Curry, 79, of Kalamazoo, passed away at her home surrounded by family, Nov. 5, 2022. Born on Sept. 21, 1943, in Gage County, Kentucky, she was the youngest of seven children to Dewey and Minnie (Hammond) Craft.
Nicknamed “Wig” as a wiggly infant, she kept it throughout her life. The family moved to Michigan for work during the war and settled in Dansville. Wig graduated from Dansville High School in 1962, and received her LPN degree from Lansing Community College. While working at St. Lawrence Hospital, she met Daniel Curry. The couple were married Feb. 1, 1964. They lived in several Michigan communities including Lansing, East Lansing, Mason, Adrian, Almena, and Kalamazoo.
Wig worked at the Paw Paw District Library for almost 40 years. A lover of books and interacting with people, it was a perfect match.  She was a true Spartan fan, supporting Michigan State University (MSU) throughout her life. As a season ticket holder, tailgating and football Saturdays were a fall tradition for almost 60 years. Wig was the heart and soul of her family. She was supportive of her children and grandchildren, attending all their sporting and stage events over the years. She loved seeing them perform and was always proud to share stories of their adventures.
Surviving is her husband, Dan Curry; her sons, Patrick (Akiko) Curry and Jeff (Sarah) Curry; her grandchildren, Ryan and Nathan; Eliana, Jaxon, and Alexia; her sisters, Marie Bailey, Allabee Craft, Patricia Daly, and Judy (Bill) Gay; as well as many nieces and nephews.
