Obituary: William “Roy” Davis Jr.

William “Roy” Davis, Jr., age 91 of Clare, formerly of Farwell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Woodland Hospice House of Mt. Pleasant, surrounded by his family.  On June 19, 1931, Roy was born one of three children to William “Roy” and Ethal (Itus-Blackburn) Davis, Sr. in Detroit Michigan.  He was united in marriage to Mary C. Enouen on May 25, 1957 in Detroit and together the pair enjoyed just over sixty-three years of marriage until the time of Mary’s passing in October of 2020.  Roy was considered by those close to him as the ultimate handyman, and a fixer of anything, in large part due to his impressive twenty-plus year career as a mechanic for Sears and Roebuck.  He was also a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and served time overseas building roads, bridges and driving large trucks through the mountains.  Roy’s passions included music (especially John Denver and Roger Whittaker), Camping trips in Northern Michigan, watching golf, playing board and card games with friends, and going on movie dates with his wife Mary.  However, those that knew Roy best, would tell you that his family came first.

Roy is survived by his children William “Bill” (Rachael) Davis III of Maryland, Karen (Ingolf) Davis-Gruen of Columbia, MO., Kenneth Davis of Romulus, Suzanne (Andy) Shoda of Plano, TX., and Kathleen (Gary) Meadowcroft of Farwell.  Other survivors include his eleven grandchildren Leighann, Sean, William R. IIII, Ian, Toby, Ash, Andrew, Brianne, Anthony, Mary, and Bailey, and his thirteen great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mary C. Davis, Jr., his parents William “Roy” and Ethal Davis, Sr., his daughter-in-law Jennifer Davis and his sisters Beulah Jolley and Margaret Davis.

A time of visitation and memorial service in honor of Roy will take place on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the time of service at 12:00 P.M.  A committal service will follow in the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery of Clare.  Memorial contributions in honor of Roy may be directed to the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org) and online condolences may be shared with the Davis family at www.stepheson-wyman.com
