Obituary: Phyllis Cassady

Phyllis Cassady, 94

Phyllis Evelyn Cassady (Haraburda) of Douglas passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 in Holland Hospital. She was born Feb, 14, 1927 (Valentine’s Day) in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Stanley and Marie (Anuskiewicz) Haraburda.

Mom graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1945. She worked at Brooks Trucking Co. at night doing clerical work until she met Dad. Dad worked with Mom’s father at a furniture company in Grand Rapids when Grandfather brought Dad home for a good home-cooked meal and the rest was history.

Mom also worked at Van Harns Egg Co. (later Gritter Egg Co.) in Holland,

Mom and Dad loved to spend their retired winters in Arizona and summers at Whiskey Creek in Scottville. Mom loved flowers, feeding birds and doing things with Dad (hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and gardening) — just about anything outdoors.

Surviving Phyllis are her children, Kathleen and Dean Johnson of Douglas and Michael Cassady of Allegan, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters, Pearl and Madeline, and her husband, Harold (2016).

As per her request, cremation has taken place and family services have been held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
