Obituary: Peggy Arlene Anderson, 93

Peggy Arlene Anderson, age 93, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at home. She was born April 20, 1929 in Calspar, Michigan to Mabel and William Bauers, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Manistique High School and on July 28, 1951, she married Marvin ‘Andy’ Anderson, who preceded her in death in 2002. They had two children, Terri and Steve, and lived in Manistique, St. Ignace, Grand Rapids, and Wayland.
Over the years she owned fudge stores in St. Ignace and Grand Rapids, in addition to jobs at the Wayland Drug Store, being a realtor, and working in customer service at Woodland Mall. She enjoyed spending summers at their cabin on Brevort Lake for over 30 years. She was an avid golfer and wintered at her home in Florida. Peggy was very self-reliant and social. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, dear sister, and her many friends, all who will dearly miss her!
She is survived by her children Terri (Mark) Kirby and Steve (Betsy) Anderson; sister, Arvella Gorsche; grandchildren Danielle (Jason) Dykhouse, Lacey (Kurt) Zalokar, Sam (Dana) Dykstra, Mark Kirby, Sean Kirby, Jenna Anderson, Kristin (Kayla) Bennett, Jessica (Dave) Dessart; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Andy; parents; and siblings Evelyn, Eleanor, Virginia, William, and Russell.
She was a member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Yankee Springs Golf Course.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held 12 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 159 131st Avenue, Wayland, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers from Hospice of Michigan for the excellent care provided during her last few months.
