Obituary: Mary Margaret Dewey Collins

Marion – Mary Margaret Dewey Collins, lifelong resident of Marion passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Munson Healthcare’s Cadillac Hospital with family by her side. She was 89.
Mary was born on April 6, 1934 in Marion, Michigan to Frank and Mary (O’Brien) England. Mary spent her career working as a secretary for her family’s business, England Pole Buildings, for nearly 20 years. In 1952 she entered into marriage with Bud J. Dewey Sr. The couple spent 44 years together, until his passing in 1996. Together, they raised four sons, Buddy, Michael, Eric and Cuirt. Mary later entered into marriage with William Knowles Collins in 2000, they enjoyed 14 years together until his time of passing in 2014. Mary was proud of her faith and was actively involved in the Marion United Methodist Church. Mary contributed to the church as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, adult study leader, and lay pastor, in addition to serving on the Church Council, Christian Women’s Club, and many years with the church luncheon committee. She held a prayer group at her home for over 20 years, where her and friends dedicated their time to praying for others. In her spare time, she could often be found writing and reading poetry, or creating art. Mary cherished the time spent with her family and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Buddy (Tina) Dewey of Lake City, Michael (Lori) Dewey of Irons, Eric Dewey of Marion, and Cuirt (Deanna) Dewey of Marion; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Orlan (Linda) England of Marion, Molly Green of North Carolina, and Gloria (Jim) Royer of Cadillac; her sister-in-law, Grace England of Marion; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bud J. Dewey Sr.; second husband, William K. Collins; and siblings, Jim (Shirley) Miller, Audrey (Leo) Herber, and Frank England.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 12 noon, with visitation held one hour prior at the Marion United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, next to her first husband, Bud Dewey. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marion United Methodist Church.
