Obituary: Mary Ann Smith-Osborn “Barbie”

Barbie passed away peacefully at her home in Clare surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 9, 2023. She was born in Flint, MI on April 7, 1973. She was a loving friend, daughter, sister, wife and mother. She lived a full life in her short time on earth. She played many sports throughout her high-school years; track, hockey, basketball, softball along while dealing with the syndrome that led her to Jesus. She was never supposed to live long or have children. She proved us all wrong with her strength. Safe to say she was a fighter. She went on to coach basketball and be a full-time mother. She loved being on the lake and making sure she always had sun kissed skin. There were many family members she adored and who inspired her to be the way she is. She was gifted her strength from her father, her resilience from her mother and her love from her aunt (Connie Smith).  She had wonderful children who were her world and she leaves her grandchildren in their care. She loved with all she had and gave all she could give to her friends and family. There wasn’t a person in the world she had a bad thing to say about. She was the person who literally gave the shirt off her back. She spent her last 7 years working hard as a bartender. You wouldn’t go into DJs without getting a hug from Barbie. In those years, every winter she would purchase many hats and gloves and hang them outside of her place of employment for the community to take if they needed. She created an event at DJs called an angel tree that would help the less fortunate families with Christmas presents for their children. She would never complain of her struggles but would say “someone else has it worse than I do”.  If she was still here, she would be telling all of us she is fine and not to worry about her. If there is one thing we can take away with her leaving this world, it’s that we all have that strength in us and love to give, don’t let it go to waste.  She leaves behind many people who love her including her parents; Bob and Mary Smith, John and Nancy Mullaly, siblings Michael and Shannon Smith along with other step siblings. Her children include; Kayla Smith, Nicholas Smith, Selena and Timothy Laverty, Gerry Osborn Jr. (Bubba), Samantha Osborn, and her grandchildren; Payton, Willow, Hope, Troy, Kylar, Timmy and Kalli.

Honoring her wishes, a cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Scott Grigonis will officiate. A Celebration of Life Service will also be held in Flint on April 15, 2023 at 3:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church located at 1922 Iowa Ave., Flint, MI 48506. Rev.
