Obituary: Lewis (Louie) Jesse Hitchcock

Lewis (Louie) Jesse Hitchcock, 92, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 at Allegan hospital, surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 24, 1931 to Leo and Helen(Walker) Hitchcock. He was married to the love of his life, Laura E. Butcher, on Dec. 29, 1951. He was a hard worker his whole life and was always there to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He worked for Hamilton Block and Roofing Tile Company as soon as he graduated high school in 1949. Later known as Hamilton Block and Redimix, until he retired after 44 years. Leaving only for his tour of duty in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a great builder, building two of their three homes. With Laura working right along side. He owned and operated his sawmill business after retirement. His biggest hobby was pilot of his own aircraft, and loved just being up in the sky. Also, hunting, fishing, touring on their trike motorcycle, camping and traveling. Was a member of Hopkins VFW and later, Fennville VFW, past member of Allegan Eagles.
He was preceded in death by son, David; his parents, son-in-law, Albert Grimm, brothers, Gerald, Don, Robert, Merle, And sister, Alice Dedrich, grand-daughter, Evelyn Hitchcock. Survived by Wife, Laura, Daughter, Joan K. Grimm(Randy Parrish), Son, Gary. Grandchildren, Chad(Kay)Grimm Troy Grimm(Tammy Deuitch), Muria(Brent)Hassevoort, Jimmy(Amy)Hitchcock. 10 great-grandchildren, 5 greatgreatgrandchildren. Siblings, Floyd(Ann), Bill(Pat), Ken(Diane), Nancy Gewiss.
At his request, cremation was by Grand Rapids Cremation. Celebration of Life will be at Dunningville Reformed Church. 2259 M-40, Allegan, MI, on Friday, October 27, 2023; at 11:00am.

  1. This was one nice man. I missed him so much as i haven’t been able to see him for about 13 years, but i will never forget him. So sorry for your loss, Laura ❤️
