Obituary: Kenneth “Fuzz” Richardson

Marion – Kenneth “Fuzz” Richardson, of Marion passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at his home with family by his side. He was 94.
He was born on November 8/9, 1928, in Marion at the centennial homestead to Andrew and Margaret “Pearl” (Watt) Richardson. Ken entered into marriage to the former Helen Arlene Reedy on June 6, 1953, in Sylvan Township, MI.  Ken proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Ken eventually made his way to working for the State of Michigan’s Department of Transportation, retiring form M-Dot after 27 years. He was known in the Marion community as a lifelong farmer, and proudly worked hard around the farm where he was born. In later years he also lent a hand at the Michigan Livestock barn and was always willing to help out at other local farms.  Ken was a lifelong and instrumental part of the Marion VFW, serving as post commander for numerous years, and was one of the responsible parties for the installation of the Veteran’s Memorial in 1998.  He was recently thrilled to be honored as a member of the “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C., just last year.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Ginny Cox, Cindy Mathewson, Kenda (Mike) Denman, Pamela (Craig) Tracey, Lisa (Patrick) Murphy, Darci Reed; grandchildren, Kaleb (Dana) Cox, Brad Cox (partner, Amber), Stephenie (Craig) Young, Heather (Tom) Pastotnik, Chris (Rachel) Mathewson, Angie Denman (partner, Bronson), Dylan Denman, Erin Miller, Kristen Tracey, Jared DeWeese, Abby (Bo) Dillard, Joel DeWeese (partner, Mariah), Sarah (John) Harris, Stacey Murphy, Heather Murphy and Drew Reed; great-grandchildren, Ashlynne, Mason, Blake, Kolby, Elizabeth, Sophia, Stephen, Amelia, Olivia, Zoe, Dexter, Harper, Anna, Audrey, Autumn, Jacob, Peyton, Logan, Lily and Jacob; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Arlene Richardson in May of 2022; infant son, Kurt Richardson; son, Craig Richardson; parents, Andrew and Pearl Richardson; sons-in-law, Paul Cox, Stephen Mathewson and Steven DeWeese; siblings, Walt (Irene) Richardson, Gerald (Winnie) Richardson, Fred (Gladys) Richardson, Don (Irene) Richardson, Alice (Kaz) Krawczynski, Leone (Red) Pritchard, Susie (Seward) Wyman, and Ray (Sharon) Richardson. in-laws, Vivian (Cliff) Doane, Maurice Reedy, Jack (Eileen)Reedy, Geri (Jim) Carmody, Phyllis (Bernie) Hamilton, and Carol(Levi) Booher.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at the Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior.  Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Marion.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marion VFW, or Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.
