John Thomas Wood, age 71, of Farwell, MI, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.
At John’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on December 3, 2023, at 4pm in Mt. Pleasant, MI. A dinner will follow in Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.
John was born on the family farm on June 16, 1952, to William and Gertrude Wood of Farwell, Michigan. Growing up, he farmed with his family and loved to be outdoors. He graduated from Chippewa Hills High School with the class of 1970. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1972-1974, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Merit and Rifle Expert Badge. He was a lifelong farmer, like his father before him. Many farmers must work out to supplement their income, and John was no exception. As a young man he worked for General Motors in Lansing and worked the window at the Mt. Pleasant post office until he was 61. John was a conversationalist. He was always willing to listen to others and offer advice. He was a hard worker and loved nature. He planted hundreds of trees in his lifetime. His favorite composer was Antonio Vivaldi, and his favorite artist was Johannes Vermeer.
John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mindy; children, and grandchildren.
