Obituary: James Roger House

James Roger House passed away in Lakeland, Florida on October 9, 2023. Born November 16, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to Homer and Janette “Janet” (Pearce) House.  James was a graduate of Clare High School (1968) and later of Central Michigan University (1974). He served in the National Guard (1971-1977) before embarking on his career as an industrial engineer. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and tinkering. He was mostly a reserved man but put a tool in his hand and he opened up. He would talk of days gone by or the Detroit Tigers. With a tool in his hand, he also became a teacher much like his mother, passing on his knowledge of machines. He was proud to make something old new again, from a cabinet to a shotgun, or even an old stool or clock. Stripping away the years of paint, stain, or patina of an object to make it glow and in some cases function again.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Love) House; his two sons Tim and Brad; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his 4 sisters Calla, Roxanne, Valerie, and Julia. He was preceded in death by his son James House II (1972-1973).

A graveside service will be held at Cherry Grove Cemetery (1000 Cedar St, Clare, MI 48617) on October 28 at 11:30 a.m. A reception with lunch will immediately follow the service at the Clare Congressional UCC (110 W 5th St, Clare, MI 48617).

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that donations be made in his name at either of the following organizations:  Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research – www.lustgarten.org or WriteGirl – www.WriteGirl.org.  Arrangements in Michigan were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  On-line condolences maybe left at www.stephenson-wyman.com
