Passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his home in Bloomingdale. Jim was born June 5, 1944 in St Joseph, the son of Louis and Angeline (Fello) Scherer. He farmed in Keeler where he was married to Andrea Springsteen and had 4 children. He moved to Bloomingdale to farm in 1979, where he owned and operated James Scherer Fruit Farms until 2023. He enjoyed duck hunting, farming, a good rocking chair, and was never very far from a good live band and a dance floor. He loved spending time with his family, especially on yearly trips to Florida, and special family gatherings. Surviving are his wife, Sandy whom he married July 31, 1998; 4 children, Gayle (Tim) Tidey of Keeler, Kathryn (Mark) Miller of Paw Paw, Julie (Brent) Shaefer of Paw Paw, Jeff (Magan) Scherer of Bloomingdale; step-children, Jill (Scott) Mitchell of South Haven, Jeff (Tanya) Bessler of US Navy currently in Stuttgart, Germany; 16 grandchildren, Marissa, Collin, Ross, Avery, Meagan, Stella, Andrew, Jack, Harris, Ben, Becky, Kayla, Sam, Abby, Ryan, Nick; 9 great grandchildren, Lucas, Colson, Reece, Brogan, Emersyn, Gideon, Naomi, Lily, Teddy; sister, Judy (Sonny) Hendrix of St. Augustine, FL; 2 brothers, Joe (Joyce) Scherer of St. Joseph, Bill (Linda) Scherer of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Carol Scherer of Marysville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Ronnie and Bruce.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and he was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery next to the farm. There will be a memorial celebration in June of 2024, details will be posted at a later time. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home.
