Fredrick A. Rohrabacher, age 83 of Harrison, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Woodland Hospice House of Mt. Pleasant. On August 19, 1939, Fred was born the son of George and Alma (Hyatt) Rohrabacher in Lansing, Michigan. Shortly after his graduation from Dimondale High School in 1958, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Nancy Parsons in their hometown of Dimondale on August 16, 1958, and together they shared just over sixty-four years of marriage. Not long after marrying Nancy, Fred’s work career began. In 1959 he enrolled in an apprenticeship with Lansing Oldsmobile, where he amassed an impressive thirty-one years of experience as a member of the plant’s building maintenance team. In the middle of his time at Oldsmobile, Fred and Nancy desired a change of pace and moved their family to Indian River, MI. for seven years while they ran a resort together on Mullet Lake and Fred also owned and operated his own HVAC company, before he was recruited back to Oldsmobile to finish his work career. In 1991, Fred retired, and he and Nancy moved to Harrison to enjoy their retirement years. Fred was an avid woodworker and golfer—he greatly enjoyed his twenty years as a ranger for SnowSnake Golf Course. In his younger years he also enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, hunting, and wintering in Texas. However, those that knew Fred best, knew that he was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
Fred is survived by his wife Nancy, of Harrison and their three daughters Tracy Sink (Tony Barr) of St. Helen, MI., Trudy (Allen) Maves of Indian River, MI., and Karen Thweatt (Perry Allen) of Frisco, TX. Other survivors include Fred’s grandchildren Alex, Abby, Kari, Douglas, Ashley, Stacey, and Cody, his 13 great-grandchildren, and his niece Lori Carlton (John Partridge). Fred was preceded in death by his parents George and Alma Rohrabacher, his brother Cletus Rohrabacher, his sister Jean Wilson, a granddaughter Megan and a great grandson Kaleb.
A celebration of life service in honor of Fred will take place in June of 2023 at Fred and Nancy’s home in Harrison at a time and date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions in honor of Fred may be directed to either MyMichigan Homecare and Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
