Betty F. (Somers) Wysong, age 92, of Farwell, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 2, 2023. She was born in Flint Michigan on February 12, 1931. She was the baby of the family having 11 brothers and sisters.
The Somers family moved from Flint Michigan to a farm in Rosebush in her early childhood years, where she attended a country school. They relocated to the family farm on Battle Rd in Farwell. Betty graduated from FHS in 1949 and was salutatorian of her class. In eighth grade she met Dale Wysong, and the two married in 1950. They enjoyed 69 wonderful years together.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and spent countless hours sewing clothes, and making homemade goodies of all kinds for their 6 children. It was important to her that her children grew up to know Jesus. She was very active in supporting the Gilmore Church of Christ, and then later the Farwell Church of Christ. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and very active with the Ladies Fellowship. She assisted with many youth events such as camp at Rock Lake Christian Assembly, youth rallies, youth retreats, and Vacation Bible School.
Throughout different periods of her life, she worked at Holly Carburetor/Essex in Clare, & Ethel Goudie’s Bridal Shop where she put her sewing skills to good use. She also was the Surrey Township secretary for many years. She served her community well and always with a smile.
Betty lived an ordinary, extraordinary life. She loved her God, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren & great, great grandchildren. Her memory will live on in each of our hearts as we go about our days. We will remember her when we think of or see: blackened hotdogs – fresh off the grill, cinnamon rolls, caramel corn, Christmas cookies, homemade bread, hard tack candy, happy tunes, lilacs in bloom, poetry, peanut brittle, popcorn & popcorn balls, red carnations, and red cake at a birthday party. She was the best!
Betty was preceded in death by her son, Todd H Wysong, one granddaughter Jennifer LaBelle, her spouse M Dale Wysong, & one grandson David LaBelle.
Betty is survived by Cheryl (Doug) Allan, DaleAnn (Gary) Montague, Jan (Bruce) Owens, Holly LaBelle, Troy Wysong, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Her service will be held 1 PM Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, at Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Farwell, Michigan. Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the service. Pastor Christian Jorgenson will officiate. Burial will be at Surrey Township Cemetery.
