Holland Hospital, Saugatuck Township and more local leaders broke ground last Thursday on the hospital’s 16,940-square-foot medical building at 3500 Blue Star Hwy. It is slated to open in spring next year.
“The new Saugatuck medical building,” hospital president Patti Van Dort said, “is a major step in continuing our mission of providing local, high-quality health care for the lakeshore community from the lakeshore community.
“This addition will help meet the immediate health care needs of vibrant and growing communities now and for years to come,” she said.
Holland Hospital has provided lab and physical therapy/rehabilitation services in Douglas for years, in 2014 opening a family medicine office with area physician Jason Myers.
Primary care providers and staff from that office will relocate to the new building once completed. Holland hospital also has offices in Holland, Zeeland, Grand Haven and South Haven.
The new family medical office will have space to accommodate up to seven providers seeing patients daily, giving guests and residents increased access to same/next-day appointments, walk-in and virtual care.
It will also offer expanded radiology services including X-ray, echocardiograms and ultrasounds; expedited lab services, and optimal space for exercise and recovery for P.T. and rehabilitation.
Future specialties added may include endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurology, rheumatology and urology.
Hospital physician offices vice president Michelle Doctor said she anticipates the Saugatuck medical building will provide 28,000 total patient visits annually.
“We are proud to offer residents an environment focused on wellness to enhance the overall health of the community, while providing an outstanding patient experience,” Doctor said.
