MARION – A recent announcement by the Michigan State Police post is likely to provide more law enforcement coverage for Missaukee County and neighboring areas.
The MSP announced in the coming weeks, it will open a full-time service post in Traverse City that will serve Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties.
The location of the post will be at 281 W. Fourteen Street.
Since October 2011, the MSP facility in Traverse City has operated as a detachment of the Cadillac Post which means some troopers started and ended their shifts at the building and used the facility to accomplish administrative tasks and meet with the public by appointment but the lobby was not opened and staffed.
Following the establishment of this new post the Cadillac Post area will focus on Missaukee, Wexford and Manistee counties the MSP said. The Houghton Lake Post area will include Roscommon, Crawford and Kalkaska counties.
“After completing a review of post service areas in the Seventh District and gathering input from community stakeholders, the decision was made to reestablish the Traverse City Post utilizing the Traverse City Detachment to best deliver MSP services in the region,” state captan Jennifer Johnson, seventh district commander said in a statement.
