Farwell had hoped to pull off an upset over visiting Meridian on Thursday, Jan. 6. The Eagles were unable to make a serious run at the Mustangs though, dropping the Jack Pine Conference boys basketball game, 78-25.
“Right now, we have a lot to work on, but we will keep improving every day,” head coach Mason Branigan said. “Once we can handle pressure and get the basics down, we will be a successful team.”
In the first quarter, Landen Heller was able to hit a three but there was no slowing down Meridian’s offense, as the Eagles faced a 25-6 hole after one.
Heller had an even better second quarter, hitting a pair of threes and netting nine points in the frame. Garrett Baxter hit four points in the quarter as well, but Farwell still faced a 40-21 deficit at the half.
Meridian padded its lead to 62-21 entering the fourth to force a running clock.
Leading the way in the setback was Heller with 12 points, Baxter had four, Kaiden Ingraham and James Seagraves-Grant had two apiece and Kole Ingraham added one.
Farwell (0-7 overall, 0-4 JPC) took on Harrison at home on Thursday and plays at Pine River on Monday.
