MCBAIN – McBain’s volleyball team went 1-1-1 in pool play at its home tournament on Saturday.
In pool play, the Ramblers beat Grayling 25-6, 25-23; split with Charlevoix 16-25, 25-20
and lost to Midland 23-25, 25-15
McBain lost to Lake City in the gold bracket quarterfinals 17-25, 10-25
Madison Ochampaugh had 45 assists, six kills, two aces with 96 percent serving and 14 digs.
Brekken Cotter had 12 kills, two aces with 96 percent serving and three blocks.
Gwyneth VerBerkmoes had 21 kills and 100 percent serving along with 34 digs.
Shannon Maloney had five kills, three blocks and six aces with 96 percent serving and seven digs.
Karsyn Meyering had 100 percent serving along with two aces, three kills, three assist and 24 digs.
Mia Bontekoe had six kills and two blocks.
“This turned out to be a great learning experience in a lot of ways,” McBain coach Shawn Murphy said.”We had to make some adjustments due to injury, but the girls adapted pretty well and I liked how they flowed with the adjustments. It was nice to see us get some more involvement with our middle attack to help spread our offense out a bit, and I was pretty pleased with our serving throughout the day.
“Overall, even though we went 1-2-1 on the day, I felt like we made some progress. Now we have to work on finishing strong for regular season before playoffs begin.”
