McBain girls compete at Cadillac

MCBAIN – It was a challenging day for McBain at Cadillac in volleyball action on Saturday. McBain lost to Lakewood 24-26, 13-25; lost to Forest Hills Eastern 12-25, 16-25 and lost to Midland
23-25, 14-25.
In the Blue Division Quarterfinals, McBain beat Midland Dow 19-25, 25-22, 15-13.
In the semi-finals it was McBain vs. Mt. Pleasant and the Oilers won 12-25, 20-25
For McBain, Gwyneth VerBerkmoes had 38 kills, 2 aces, 8 blocks, 12 digs; Madison Ochampaugh 63 assists, 3 aces, 6 kills, 6 digs; Brekken Cotter 14 kills, 3 blocks, 5 aces; Ayla Fredin 22 kills, 2 digs; Shannon Maloney 10 kills, one Block; Mia Bontekoe 6 kills, 3 blocks; Isabel Rozeveld 2 kills, 4 blocks, Karsyn Meyering 14 digs and Megan Kile 100 percent serving
“The team showed a lot of resilience today despite not having their head coach, Shawn Murphy,” assistant coach Dawn VerBerkmoes said. “We battled against some really tough competition. Our win against Midland Dow was a team effort. The girls came from behind in the third set, and we did a good job in that match throwing Midland out of system by running a fast offense.
“I am proud of the positive attitudes today and responding well to a different coach.”
