Mattawan and Paw Paw sent their bowling teams to a Division 2 regional at Spectrum Lanes in Wyoming on Friday and Saturday. While neither team was able to continue their season, the tournament was highlighted by Mattawan’s Charlie Johnson winning the individual regional tournament.
In Friday’s team portion, the Paw Paw boys wrapped up a sixth place finish. After six baker games and three regular games, they had a total pinfall of 3181. Mattawan saw its boys team place eighth with a total pinfall of 3042.
On the girls’ side, the Paw Paw girls placed 10th with a total score of 2294 and the Mattawan girls were 11th by pinning 2107.
On Saturday, Johnson won the boys’ individual tournament, getting a six game series total of 1140; just three pins ahead of the second place finisher. His scores were 165, 181, 167, 226, 201 and 200.
Mattawan also had Eric Wheeler place 12th with a 1071, Tyler Pierce was 14th with 1043, Cameron Johnson was 20th at 1004 and Jacob Nandorf was 84th with a total pinfall of 663.
Paw Paw had Ethan Vanderslik finish just one spot out of the finals, coming in 11th with a total pinfall of 1074. Kevin Buchannan placed 50th with an 863, Connor New 56th at 838 and in 58th and 59th was Hassei Omori and James Buchanan with rolls of 831 and 830.
On the girls’ side Mattawan was led by Klara Kruschwitz who was 34th at 740. Paw Paw had 36th and 37th place finishers with Alexys Bilton and Malina Calderon who rolled series of 736 and 735.
The Division 2 state championships are Friday and Saturday at Super Bowl in Canton.
