MARON – Newly elected board member Jack Nehmer was sworn in at Monday’s Marion monthly council meeting taking over for Steve Henderson.
Also sworn in were Flora Grundy as president and two other incumbent board members, Bonnie Tenney and Cal Ellens. The trustees terms are four years and president is two years.
“We moved forward with the next steps in the DWSRF Water System Improvement project with approving the proposal for design and construction from the engineering firm Fleis & Vandenbrink,” Grundy said. “We expect the project to begin towards the end of 2023. The Village just applied for a 1.424 million dollar grant for some much needed upgrades and repairs on the main dam and upgrades and replacement of the Wing Street dam. We feel very confident that we will get approved for the grant.
‘There has been a request to update/change the locks on the gates at the fairgrounds due to damage on the track and grounds from vehicles. The council is looking into this request. The streets committee presented a proposal for the abandonment of a small section of First street along with a small section of the adjoining alley. The proposal will be sent to the Village attorney before any action is taken.”
Grundy said a special budget meeting has been set for Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall community room.
“This is a public meeting and all are welcome,” Grundy said. “The new fiscal year begins on March 1, 2023 for the Village.”
Grundy said there was discussion on getting new phone service with new equipment at the Village Hall and continued discussion on getting recycling options in town.
Village hired Bruce Towers for part time winter help this year.
“He will be helping with snow removal, salting, maintenance, etc.” Grundy said. “The Village is still looking to hire a campground manager for the 2023 season.”
The next meeting is Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.
