MARION – Marion’s new DPW truck, that has been on order since last year finally arrived last month, it was reported at the monthly meeting earlier this month.
It will be equipped with a safety light, new plow and Village of Marion decals.
“The village was contacted by the railroad and informed that two trees on Main Street and the hanging flower pots were obstructing the view of the railroad signal lights,” council president Flora Grundy said. “Due to this safety concern, we had to remove the two trees and lower the hanging flower pots to be in compliance.
“Verizon has contacted the Village about possibly putting a tower on Village of Marion property. We are still in talks with them on this matter. There has been some interest for recycling to return to Marion. I am currently looking into some options to offer recycling to Village residents and businesses.”
Grundy said the council has been looking into some uses for the old tennis courts on Fourth Street.
“There has been some interest for pickleball courts,” Grundy said. “Pickleball is a quickly growing sport similar to tennis enjoyed by all ages. We would welcome any suggestions from the public regarding their thoughts on a pickleball court or ideas for that space.”
Old-Fashioned Days T-shirts are on sale now, Grundy said. They may be purchased at the village hall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and there will be a booth at Old Fashioned Days.
The next council meeting is Monday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at the village hall.
