MARION – The Marion Village Council held the dedication ceremony in memory of Don Gillmore earlier this week.
Gillmore, Marion’s former president and board member, passed away recently.
Also at the meeting, the council approved the plans for a disc golf course to be built on the far south end of the park/fairground area. The monies for the project will be paid out of the Helfridge fund which is earmarked for recreation projects such as this, council president Flora Grundy said. “Most of the work will be completed by volunteers. The projected grand opening will be Memorial Weekend 2024.”
Dave Swiler was welcomed to his first meeting as a member of the council.
Grundy said cameras have been installed outside at the Village Hall. There was discussion on replacing the cameras at the intersection of Main Street and M-66, as well. Grundy added a variance was approved for the Old Mill project to build a 12×80 porch as part of the renovations.
“We are actively looking for a park manager for the 2024 season,” Grundy said. “The seasons runs from May to the end of October. Interested parties can get more information on the position from the Village Hall or online.”
