Marion boys sneak past Pentwater

MARION – Marion’s boys basketball team got the job done on Tuesday with a 54-44 West Michigan D League victory over Pentwater.
The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter and Marion led 18-13 at halftime and 37-19 after the third quarter.
Gavin Prielipp had 16 points for Marion, followed by Gage Baker with nine points and six rebounds, Braden Prielipp with eight points, James Williams and Cole Meyer with seven apiece and Cayden McCrimmon with five.
“We played our best defensive performance for three quarters,” Marion coach Dan Michell said. “I was proud of all our guys for bringing it up. Cayden and Gage, our back-up guards, hit some big shots for us. The last couple of games Pentwater had hit 10-plus threes and tonight we held them to one through three quarters and three for the game.
“Pentwater came in 10-0 in the conference so this was a big win for our guys.”
Marion will be home on Thursday, Feb. 1, against Manistee Catholic Central in West Michigan D League action.
On Jan. 26, Marion beat Walkerville in league action 67-35. Walkerville is 6-4 in the league and 6-7 overall.
Marion is 6-10 overall and 5-5 in the West Michigan D League.
