MARION—Marion’s boys basketball team came off the holiday break on Wednesday with a 63-54 win at Mason County Eastern on West Michigan D League action.
The Eagles are 3-7 overall. In their home tournament last week, they lost to Vestaburg 56-51 and beat Hale in the consolation game 53-34.
Marion led 15-13 after the first quarter, 27-25 at halftime and 44-36 after the third.
Cole Meyer had 22 points and nine rebounds for Marion. Braden Prielipp had 16 points and seven rebounds and also had six steals. Gavin Prielipp had 12 points, four rebounds, five steals and four assists.
“Offensively I thought Cole Meyer played a great game from the field,” coach Dan Michell said. “Gavin when he was on the court played good defense on their leading scorer. He was all over the place. We have a few things on the court we have to improve on defensively. But we will do that and continue to get better.”
In the tournament against Vestaburg, Braden Prielipp had 16 points and Cole Meyer had 15 points.
“Braden had a transition dunk that sparked our comeback,” Michell said. “We ran out of time and cut it to three with 30 seconds to go.
“Against Hale, we came out a little flat and a little tired from the night before,” Michell said.
Braden Prielipp had 21 points, and Meyer 11 points.
“I thought Colin McCrimmon played two good games during the tournament and played good defense,” Michell said.
Marion will be at Mesick on Jan. 5 and at Evart on Jan. 8.
