CONSTANTINE TWP. — A 57-year-old Constantine man was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital with what police say are life-threatening injuries after crashing his vehicle into a tree Sunday night.
According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched at 6:49 p.m. to the area of Zerbe Road near U.S. 131 in Constantine Township for a traffic crash with injuries. Police say the man was driving east on Zerbe Road when he reportedly ran off the roadway, striking a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver was treated on scene and airlifted to Kalamazoo. The incident is still under investigation, and the driver’s name is being withheld at this time.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by the White Pigeon Police Department, Constantine Fire and Rescue, Three Rivers Fire Department, St. Joseph County Central Dispatch, Air Care and Shears Towing.
