Lawton volleyball wins first district title since 2010

Taking on tournament host Bangor in the district championship match on Friday, Lawton got off to a slow start, dropping the first set. From there the night, and even more importantly the district trophy belonged to the Lady Blue Devils however, as they claimed a 23-25, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-9 victory.
“The first set was shakey for us, but we competed and were victorious, defeating them in the next three sets,” head coach Kristin Burk said. “This is our first district championship since

    Lexi Girolami led the team with seven kills, five digs and one double block, Ella Richter had five kills, 20 digs and three aces, Gabby High added 12 assists, one kill, seven digs and two aces, Addi Price chipped in with four kills, 13 digs, one assist, two aces and one double block, Heidi Newhouse had two kills, six blocks, seven digs and one ace and Belle Karsen finished with two aces and six digs.
    On Wednesday, Nov. 2, playing in the district semi-final, Lawton took down Bloomingdale in straight sets, 25-12, 26-24 and 25-13.
    “We came with the heat,” Burk said. “We were not able to put up many blocks due to the multiple free balls sent over from the opponent, but executed our techniques offensively.”
    Leading the attack in this one was Girolami as she had 13 kills and one block, Richter had eight kills, 18 digs and one ace, Heidi Newhouse had five kills, one block and one ace, High had 25 assists, one kill and two aces, Price chipped in with 21 digs and one ace and Lexi Hemenway added nine digs and two aces.
    Lawton plays in a regional at Coloma this week.
