LAWRENCE – Rasaun Brown coached Lawrence girls basketball team in Brown’s fifth season as skipper and the squad was 12-12, 7-11(Southwest 10), 5-1(non league) and placed eighth in the league.
Carolina Mancera scored 36 points in a game vs Bloomingdale. Brooklyn Remelts had a game with 6 made threes vs Hartford. Hailey Camp had a 6 point, 14 rebound, 10 block game vs Centreville.
“One of the challenges we faced was our size. When we didn’t have Hailey Camp on the floor it was hard to get stops and rebound,” Brown said. “Carolina Mancera was the person that we went to when we needed a bucket. She created for others and herself and was first team All Conference.”
Brooklyn Remelts is a shooter and was honorable mention
“Hailey Camp was our defensive anchor, and started showing her scoring ability late in the season and was honorable mention.” Key returners: Entire starting 5 (Colleen McCaw, Brooklyn Remelts, Leslie Reed, Carolina Mancera, Hailey Camp), and Kaylin Leyva, Kelsey Harroun, Alyssa Coombs who all had contributions throughout the season.
“The goal for next year is to win some of those close games that got away from us and improve off of this past season,” Curtis said. “We had a young team with little varsity experience. With a year of experience under their belt and another summer to get better I am very excited for what we can do next season.”
