A crash that killed a 29-year-old Lake man who was riding a dirt bike, allegedly on the property of the 54-year-old neighbor who is now jailed for reckless driving causing death, is being investigated by Isabella County Sheriff’s officers.
Deputies were called to the 7000 block of West Stevenson Lake Road in Coldwater Township at 9:17 a.m. They found the Lake man dead at the scene near West Stevenson Lake and North Coldwater roads, Isabella County Sheriff Michael Main said.
Deputies determined that the victim, who was not immediately named by police, and another man were riding dirt bikes on the neighbor’s property and were leaving when the man got into his 2020 GMC pickup truck and began to chase after them. During the chase, the driver of the truck hit the victim, Main said.
Even though nobody has been formally charged in connection with the fatal crash, Isabella County Jail records show a man named Allen Leroy Sprague was booked into the jail at 2:46 p.m. on Oct. 26 on a charge of reckless driving causing death. He is being held without bond.
