Veterans enter the Veterans Freedom Park for the Welcome and Posting of the Colors. Attendance was up this year thanks in part to the beautiful weather.Sparta- Esterline VFW Post 3039’s Memorial Day Ceremony was held Monday at the Farwell Village Park. The Farwell High School Band performed the National Anthem and both Gina Hamilton and Bill Geyer were speakers. Post Commander Geyer told the history of the post which was named after World War II Veterans James Sparta and Anthony Esterline, both killed in action during the war. A wreath was placed at the Veterans’ Memorial in the park in their honor and to honor Steve Laverty who died in Viet Nam. Sparta Esterline Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3039 is now 71 years old. Photos by Steve Landeon In Harrison Veterans Freedom Park hosted another annual Memorial Day service since opening in 2016. In addition to speeches by Allisha Gary, County Veterans Service Officer, Joe Prato, Commander of American Legion Post 404 and Scott Taylor, Commander VFW Post 1075, followed by; Laying of the Wreaths’ and retirement of the colors. Harrison was not the only Memorial Day Service in the county. Clare, Farwell, and other communities in the area remembered our fallen heros.
