GOBLES – A 40-year-old Gobles area man is facing several charges, including home invasion, after an incident that occurred Oct. 22, in Gobles, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said that at approximately 11:14 a.m., Van Buren Central Dispatch took a 911 call regarding a breaking and entering potentially in progress in the 10000 block of 31st Street, Gobles. Sheriff Abbott said the victim arrived home to find her rear entry garage door forced open and broken glass scattered throughout the garage. She immediately left the scene and called 911. Deputies, along with Michigan State Police troopers, responded to the call. Upon their arrival, they found a suspicious male near the scene. While investigating the break-in, the suspicious male approached the officers on scene and provided a false name. According to Sheriff Abbott, officers on scene noticed glass particles on the male’s boots/clothing. While attempting to detain the subject pending further investigation, he refused to comply with orders and physically resisted the officers. The suspect was eventually taken into custody pending the result of the investigation.
Deputies, along with the assistance of MSP troopers, continued their investigation. A K-9 deputy was called in for service and responded to the scene. K-9 Jett and his handler ran a successful track leading to the suspect’s residence. Sheriff Abbott said during a search of the suspects property, a hammer was located that matched tool impressions on the victim’s door.
The suspect is currently being held at the Van Buren County Jail and faces in addition to home invasion, possession of burglary tools, obstruction by disguise, and three counts of resisting and obstructing.
