ALLEGAN – Allegan County Board of Commissioners chairman James Storey has announced Jenifer Garcia, who has led the foundation at Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital since 2016, has accepted the position of directing the county’s senior and veterans services under the auspices of the Commission on Aging.
“She brings a wealth of community experience to the position that ensures the services are delivered efficiently,” Storey said. “These services include Adult Day Care, Home Delivered Meals, In Home Supports, Personal Emergency Response Systems and Senior Transportation.
“Ms. Garcia, who resides with her husband and children in Dorr Township, brings in-depth experience in customer service, financial stewardship, and program development along with a strong network of business and nonprofit relationships that span the County. She is currently chair of the county’s economic development commission, a member of the Allegan Rotary Club and has served in several roles with the United Way organizations serving the county.”
Garcia succeeds Sherry Owens who recently retired.
Meanwhile, The Board of Commissioners last week started its deliberations over the 2024 county budget. It approved a 3.25% increase for elected county officers (not including Commissioners) and started discussion on adjusting the salaries of the part time road commissioners. Previous BOC’s have approved compensation policies competitive with other similar Michigan counties. The board next meets on Sept. 14 to continue budget work.
