Clare Old Fashion Day set for September 30th

On Sept. 30, the Clare County Historical Society Hosts Annual ‘Old Fashion Day,’ with the Sunshine String Band; Vera Wiltse from Michigan Barn Preservation Network; special displays; old vehicles and more.

Visitors to the Clare County History Park on Old Fashion Day may think learning in a one-room schoolhouse, living in a log cabin, using a manual typewriter or needing a blacksmith as “old,” but to those living during that era, they were as modern as the newest personal handheld electronics. At Old Fashion Day, visitors get a chance to step back in time, to see and experience life as it was. The event features old tractors, including a 94-year-old McCormick-Deering kerosene powered machine (with no suspension), old cars, trucks and more. There will also be live music and Vera Wiltse talking about historic barns in Michigan. As usual, our blacksmiths will be hard at work at their forge, and all our buildings, including our museum, historic one-room schoolhouse, and small log cabin where the Ott family raised 18 children will be open. It’s your final chance to visit before we close for the 2023 season.
Old Fashion Day takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Clare County History Park at the corner of Dover and Eberhart Roads, north of Clare. Admission to all speakers and activities is only $3 per person. Children 12 years and under admitted free. Proceeds benefit the museum.
The Clare County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving, advancing and disseminating knowledge of the history of Clare County and the surrounding areas.
