The Clare girls basketball team lost their game against Sanford Meridian on Dec. 7 with a final score of 57-17. They also won their game against Shepherd on Dec. 12 with a final score of 48-35.
In the game against Sanford Meridian, Kendra Fouts, Tessa Kelly and Amelia Ryzyk each had three points. In addition to the 17 points the girls scored, they also had a total of 32 rebounds, five assists and nine steals. Their field goal percentage was 19%, their three point percentage was 14%, and their free throw percentage was 50%.
“Meridian played tough, fast defense that gave us fits all night long,” head coach Shane Kelly said. “It was a great wake up call for our girls to see the intensity and effort that it takes to become the team we want to be. Meridian is a team that has a mission and they have been pushing towards that goal for a long time. We as a team are trying to build that culture. It isn’t going to happen overnight but we are working to get better every day.”
In the game against Shepherd, Kendra Fouts scored 22 points with six three-pointers, Kyley Wyman had nine points, Tessa Kelly had seven points, and Ryzyk had six points.
“The girls played nice defense and showed a lot of hustle.” Coach Kelly said. “Amelia played great defense on one of the conference’s best player. A great team win.”
The Lady Pioneers’ next couple of games will be against Gladwin and Saginaw Swan Valley.
