Rainy weather on Sunday, December 11th of 2022 was not enough to prevent Christmas On the Square in LaFayette from taking place. Adrian Holloway, organizer of the event and director of the City of LaFayette’s Christmas Committee, announced via facebook shortly after 1pm CST that the festivities were relocated and would be held inside the gymnasium of LaFayette High School due to wet winter weather that had been forecast. Thanks to Holloway’s swift action, the day was saved for vendors and visitors alike who did not miss a beat as they streamed into the school’s spacious facilities.
Adjacent to the gym there was a buzz of activity in the parking lot where the Stylology Fashion Truck had set up shop. According to their official facebook page they are a “Mobile Fashion Truck who offers stylish clothing to all the ladies with style & grace!” and also participated in the Greater Valley Area Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 8th. Mary’s Grilled Chicken Wraps was present with their food truck serving up their trademark culinary goodness that has made them hometown heroes to local food fans all over the Chambers County area. Kaj’s Steakburgers also had their food truck on hand serving up savory sensations with coveted cuisine that included bodacious burgers, loaded fries and sizzling cheesesteaks.
Upon entering the gym there was a robust roster of vendors waiting with tables arranged around the perimeter and jam packed with goods and wares for all sorts of tastes. Metal Creations Jewelry by Gloria Nunn offered a dazzling selection of necklaces, bracelets and earrings that were a delight for the eyes. Neicy’s Oil’s was next with a fragrant lineup of body oils, body lotions, shower gels, and body sprays.
Essie’s Sweet Treats offered up a cornucopia of artisanal confections including candy apples, peanut brittle, cupcakes, pralines, brownies and cheese mix. Grandma Val’s Lemonade stand was quenching thirst with style by pouring fresh squeezed beverages that tickled the tongue with their crisply sweet concoctions that came in flavors such as classic, strawberry, pink raspberry and pina colada. Sweet Bue’s Dessert Studio was a sight to behold with an impressive array of sweets such as lemon cupcakes, strawberry crunch cheesecake slices and 8oz. Cake Jars of the Red Velvet and German Chocolate varieties.
JuDea’s Creations stood out with their delectable assortment of Brunswick stew, infused popcorn, and chocolate pecans. Laquam Treats and Sweets tempted many taste buds with banana pudding and push pops. Crafts by Chelle offered an eclectic treasure trove of wine bottle coasters, customized domino sets, keychains, bling cups and diva wreaths. DG Custom Shirts & More excited the senses with one-of-a-kind gifts such as Lafayette Bulldog t-shirts, scarves, hats, earrings and bows.
Activities and treats for children were in full supply with a bounce house slide, cotton candy, cookies, sweet tea, gnarly nachos and hot cocoa. Inspirational live music performances were provided courtesy of Hasaan Green and Dean Sheffield as well as a megamix of Christmas classics pumped out by a DJ booth that kept it moving. Musical chairs had the kids and adults laughing and smiling while portraits with Santa were taken, Christmas spirit was in full swing rain or shine on this glorious afternoon.
This coming Saturday the Christmas Parade in LaFayette has been rescheduled to take place so save the date!
