JV Girls
The JV girls went 2-1 last week with wins over both Evangel and Autauga. They hosted Evangel to open the week. Abbi Tenpenny scored first for the Rebels as they led 6-3 at the half. Emmy McManus finally put the Rebels on a hot streak in the second half as they scored 9 points in the third quarter and posted a 15-8 win over the Lions.
Next, they faced Edgewood. Samantha Lovelace struck first for the Rebels as they led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats began to press in the second quarter which hurt the Lady Rebels as they trailed 11-17 at the half. The third quarter was devastating to Chambers’ efforts as they were outscored 2-15, but they battled back in the fourth quarter. However, the deficit was too much to overcome as they fell 21-34.
Finally, they traveled to Autauga Academy on Friday and chalked up another win. They will get a week of practice before they face Macon-East on Friday.
JV Boys
The JV Boys also went 2-1 on the week, suffering their first loss of the season. They easily handled the Evangel Lions to start the week. Things were close in the first quarter, but the Rebels jumped out to a 21-14 lead at the half. Cameron Gooden hit a three in the third to launch Chambers to a 35-21 win.
Drew Sheppard opened the game with a three against the Edgewood Wildcats. The Rebels had an easy 9-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Wildcats battled back in the second period cutting Chambers’ halftime lead 15-12. Sheppard extended the Rebel lead to six as he drew the foul while managing to ring the basket and then hitting his free throw. The Rebels finally seemed to put the Wildcats away when Grey Hayley hit a three late in the fourth, but Edgewood was relentless pulling within two points with less than a minute to go. Just as Chambers was about to add another win, Edgewood banked in a near half court shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. After a neck-and-neck three minutes of play, Hunter Andrews hit a two pointer to once again tie the game, placing the Rebels in another overtime. This time the Rebels’ hot streak went cold, and they lost 33-30.
However, they ended the week on a high note, beating Autauga on the road.
Varsity Girls
The varsity girls secured their first win of the season against Evangel. After trailing in the first quarter 7-11, their defense went to work only allowing the Lady Lions to score a single point in the second quarter making the score 16-12. The second half was all Lady Rebels as they inked their first win.
The rest of the week did not fare as well for the Lady Rebels as they dropped the next game 42-56 to the undefeated Lady Wildcats of Edgewood and then suffered a loss on the road to Autauga to round out the week.
Varsity Boys
The Varsity Boys opened the week with their own overtime win. After fighting for each basket during regulation play, the game ended in a tie sending the Rebels into overtime. However, no winner could be declared at the end of that period either. Finally, Chambers was able to prevail 49-48 over Evangel. Caden Hayley was the leading scorer for the Rebels with 26 points.
The next day, the Rebels hosted Edgewood and started the game on the mission leading 13-9 at the end of the first. They held onto their lead 22-19 at the half, but the third quarter was devastating for Rebels as they were outscored 9-19. They were unable to overcome that deficit in the fourth and dropped the game 37-49.
Finally, Chambers faced Autauga on Friday. The Rebels did not stay on pace with their scoring average and only managed to post 37 points in the loss.
