It was an important week of basketball for the LaFayette Bulldogs. The Bulldogs played two games of great magnitude as far as region rankings go. LaFayette hosted region nemesis Reeltown on Thursday and traveled to Newsite on Friday to face region foe Horseshoe Bend.
On Thursday the Dogs came out the gates slower than usual against the Rebels.
It was nip and tuck all night for the Bulldogs as they battled back and forth. Reeltown put up a valiant effort versus the Bulldogs but came up short at the end of the night 47-40. LaFayette though they didn’t play well, walked away with the “W” on the evening.
Friday night the Bulldogs hit the road to Horseshoe Bend to take the court against the Generals. After a sluggish game on Thursday, the Bulldogs got back to themselves on Friday dominating Horseshoe Bend 28-13 in the first half.
But the Generals fought back hard in the second half to make things a little uncomfortable for the Bulldogs. With a great second half surge Horseshoe Bend managed to close the gap on the Dogs, only to fall short by a score of 47-43.
The Bulldogs are now 3-0 in regional play and 13-5 overall on the season.
On Monday the LaFayette Bulldogs participated in a basketball game versus the Opelika Bulldogs in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. The game was played in Wadley, Alabama on the campus of Southern Union State Community College at their gymnasium.
It was a battle of the Bulldogs. As always, the Bulldogs of LaFayette didn’t back down, even though they were facing a much larger school classification wise in Opelika. LaFayette fought hard the entire game and gave the 7A Bulldogs from down 431 south all they could handle. Opelika held off LaFayette to secure a 65-55 victory over the Bulldogs.
